Obituary of Anne Elizabeth Dunwald
DUNWALD {HAGGERTY} [nee BERKHOLD]
It is with great sadness that the family of Anne Dunwald, formerly of Brandon, MB, announce her passing on Sunday, January 20, 2013 in Leduc, AB. Anne was born October 11, 1920 in the Community of Brenda, south of Brandon. Upon the death of her parents at a young age, Anne was raised by Bessie and Bob Whyte. She received her teaching certificate from the Brandon Normal School and began her career in a one-room school at Medina, MB. She married Murray John Haggerty and together they farmed in the Oak River area raising three daughters, Beverly and twin girls, Leila and Linda. After moving to Oak River, she recommenced teaching at Oak River School and then moved to Brandon to continue her teaching career with Brandon School Division teaching at Alexander, Fleming and J.R. Reid schools. Anne was predeceased by Murray in 1964. Anne enjoyed travelling with her second husband Stanley Eric Dunwald. Her life was enriched by Stan's four sons, Ray, Marvin, Neil and Keith. Together Anne and Stan belonged to many organizations devoting numerous volunteer hours. Anne was predeceased by Stan in 1998. As a resident of The Lions Manor and The Landing, she enjoyed the variety of activities both residences offered. Many close friendships were developed through hours of playing crib, cards and shuffle board. Anne always enjoyed her meetings with the Brandon Normal School Reunion graduates of 1939-1940. She belonged to Rebecca Lodge and UCT. Anne moved to Leduc, AB in April of 2010 to be closer to her family. A Berkhold Family Reunion organized by nephew, Gerald, was held in Medicine Hat, AB in July 2011. As special guest of honor, Anne amazed her family with an uplifting speech. Anne was predeceased by her husband Murray [1964], husband Stan [1998] and daughter Leila in 2004, also predeceased by three brothers, Clarence, George and Gordon and two sisters, Lillian and Iva. She is survived by daughters Beverly [Rupert], Linda [Blake], son-in-law Ross, stepsons Ray [Val], Marvin [Joni], Neil [Setsuko], and Keith. Anne enjoyed time spent with her 14 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Many nieces, nephews and sisters-in-law, Margaret, Evelyn, Pat and Jean have fond memories of their visits with Anne. Anne was always eager to make that 'twenty-five cent bet' with her son-in-law Blake. Cremation has taken place. Interment with graveside service will be at a later date.
