Obituary of Renie Burte

BURTE: The family of Renie Burte of Brandon, MB, are sad to announce her passing on Wednesday, November 10, 2010, after a recurrence of lung cancer, which she had fought successfully in 1997. Renie Cordes was born in London, England, on June 28, 1931. After leaving school, Renie worked in the cinema, where she developed a life long love for the movies and classic murder mysteries. Renie met Canadian soldier Harold (Audie) Burte in Piccadilly Circus. They were married in London on August 15, 1953, moving to Glace Bay, Nova Scotia, where Audie worked briefly in the mines. When Audie re-joined the artillery, they led a nomadic life, eventually moving to Shilo and settling in Brandon. Audie passed away on March 31, 2005. Renie was also predeceased by her parents, Jessie in 1976 and May in 2002 and two much-adored brothers, Roy Cordes and Arthur Cordes. Renie and Audie are survived by their three children: Tom in Red Deer, AB; Donna (Jim) in Winnipeg; and Hal (Val) in Brandon; and three grandchildren: Heather Burte in Santa Barbara, CA; Renie Zdebiak (Sean) in Brandon, MB; Chris Burte in Edmonton, AB; and one great-grandson, Ethan Zdebiak. Renie is also survived by brothers Gordon and John, sister Joan, nieces and nephews, as well as an extended family of in-laws. A service for friends and family in memory of Renie will be held at the Brockie Donovan Chapel, 332-8th Street, on Friday, November 19, 2010 at 10:30 am with Rev. John Dolloff of St. Mary's Anglican Church officiating. Interment will follow at the Brandon Cemetery.
