Obituary of William (Bill) Lloyd Porter
Passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 25th, 2011 at Parkwood Hospital in his 90th year. Born and raised in Port Arthur (Thunder Bay) Ontario, he enlisted in the RCAF at the age of 21 and served as a pilot of Halifax Bombers during WWII in 1944-45. After returning from the war, he graduated from the Ontario College of Optometrists and practiced in London from 1952 through to his retirement in 1991. Bill had many interests including travelling abroad with his wife, family and friends but was particularly passionate with spending time at his cottage on Colpoy’s Bay on the Bruce Peninsula. He took tremendous enjoyment and pride in his many construction projects that he embraced and completed by himself. Bill was quiet, kind and generous with a very dry sense of humour and was enormously grateful for the healthy life he was given. He will be sadly missed by Anne, his loving wife of 63 years; his five children including sons Tom (Jenny), David (Karen), Paul (Mary), Bradley (Martha) and daughter Julie (Ralph); and five grandchildren Heidi, Maggie, Will, Sean and Lucy. Fondly remembered by nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his brothers Jack Porter and Bev Porter. A Service to Celebrate the Life of Bill Porter will be held on Wednesday, August 31st, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. when family and friends will gather at Riverside United Church, 451 Dunedin Drive, London. A reception will follow. In lieu of flowers the family respectfully request memorials to Parkwood Hospital – Palliative Care Unit (c/o St. Joseph’s Health Care Foundation).
