Obituary of Elizabeth Middleton Tweedie Gloude (nee Leghorn)
Died peacefully on March 31, 2020, in her 91st year, at home with her two loving daughters, Janis Blackwell (Owen Sound), and Carolyn Gloude (Toronto) by her side. She is predeceased by her son Raymond (1984). She is cherished by her grandchildren Henry, Claire, Amy and Megan. Betty is predeceased by her sisters Violet Kistler (late Walt), and Jean Sheppard (late Art). She is survived by her brother, Bob Leghorn (Cathy) and sister, Mary Snively (late Don) and by her many nieces and nephews. She was beloved by her many friends.
Betty was born in Bells Hill, Scotland, and after immigrating lived in London and Windsor. She was active in community theatre and choirs, avidly attended exhibitions, theatre, and concerts, was a fiercely competitive bridge player, loved Scrabble and remembered the words to every song written since 1928.
Betty lived life with love and joy. She was kind, gentle and adorably stubborn. All our best memories include food, family, friends, tall tales, laughter, sing-a-longs and many beach picnics at Port Stanley. She brought much beauty into the lives of many in southwestern Ontario throughout her long career as an interior decorator. She ran her own business and over the years taught many her craft.
Shortly after she turned 75 she decided to sell her home, close her business and move to Prince Edward Island because she always wanted to live by the sea. She had 5 fantastic windswept years walking the seashore and starting a local bridge club. She then returned to family and friends in London. London was always home.
Many thanks to the staff at Parkwood Rehab Hospital and the Southwest LHIN. And a special thanks to the PSWs and palliative nursing team with VON, you helped give dignity to her final days. She will be missed by all. She lives on in our hearts.
A celebration of her life will be held at a later date. In memory of Betty, and in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the London Jazz Society, P.O. Box 25141, London, Ontario, N6C 6A9. She’d love that!
