I am not sure if you know us or not. We are Gail and Steve Karbownik. We worked with Alan for many years at GM Locomotive. Since our retirement we moved to Nova Scotia but have kept in touch with friends in London and that is how we heard of this very sad news. My wife and I had the utmost respect for him and I had the privilege of reporting to him for some time. There are no words that can express the true sorrow and sadness that we feel. Alan was a good person and we know that he will be deeply missed by all the people that knew him. Please accept our sincere condolences. It was only by accident that I learned of Al's passing. My wife saw his picture in the newspaper and recognized him by that beautiful smile of his. He was a wonderful kind and gentle man and he will truly be missed. Carol, you and your family have our heartfelt codolences. I first met Al in 1982 when I was transferred to Diesel Division. All my previous experience had been in the car assembly plants with General Motors but Al was always willing to help by answering all my questions and by giving me advice that I sorely needed... and his helping hand was extended in a gentlemanly and sensitive manner. I very much appreciated his support and I'll remember him with great fondness and respect. I'm sorry that my wife and I will not be able to attend the memorial service on November 27 because we'll be out of the country but Al will always be very much in our thoughts.
