Obituary of Melvin Sidney Hunt

Hunt, Melvin Sidney (Mel) – Passed away on August 13, 2010, after a courageous battle with leukemia and heart disease, in his 81st year. Beloved husband of Rhena (nee Eckmier) for 54 years. Loving father of Brenda and proud grandfather of Sara, Daniel and Amanda. Predeceased by his parents William and Gladys Hunt, sister Marion and brothers William and Norman. Also survived by his niece Jacie and nephew Martin. Mel was born in Souris, MB, moved to Winnipeg and later Fort William. He was active in the Fort William Rowing Club, winning several medals and the Junior Singles in 1951. In 1952 he joined the R.C.A.F. and obtained electronics training. He worked on the CF 100. In 1958 he joined I.B.M. Canada. He taught the I.B.M. 360-30. He spent 32 years with I.B.M. and retired in 1990. He was a member of the Society for Learning in retirement for 18 years, served on the Executive and as Past President. Mel was an outgoing and friendly man who loved to talk and tell jokes. He enjoyed his hobbies – computers, digital photography, steam locomotives and he was a huge Canadian history fan. Visitation will be held at the Westview Funeral Chapel, 709 Wonderland Road North, London, on Tuesday, August 17, 2010 from 2:00 – 4:00 and 7:00-9:00 p.m. where the funeral service will be conducted in the chapel on Wednesday, August 18, 2010 at 3:00 p.m. Interment of ashes in Elma Centre Cemetery, Atwood, ON. at a later date. Those wishing to make a donation in memory of Mel are asked to consider the London Regional Cancer Centre or the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
