Obituary of Louise C. Koenig
Louise was born in Portland, Oregon to Joseph and Louise (Paquet) de la Fountaine, the fifth of six children. She was a third generation Oregonian and her Grandfather was an Oregon State Senator.She moved to Eugene in 1937 after marrying Carl Koenig. It was the same year she became a parishioner of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. He died in 1983. They had three children; Thomas (deceased), Jim and Gretchen.Louise never drove and was known everywhere for her speedy walking. She volunteered over 2500 hours at Sacred Heart Hospital. Having many interests she also gave her time to The Red Cross, Kaufman Senior Center and the Elections Board. Louise was very talented at creating her own cards and many looked forward to receiving her originals. She continued to make cards past her 100th year. A gifted seamstress, she designed costumes, gowns and a myriad of outfits. She died two months shy of her102nd birthday but accomplished her goal of living independently her entire life.Her family includes; son, Jim; daughter, Gretchen; five grandchildren; Jerry, Jannie, Julie, Heidi, and Nancy and seven great grandchildren. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, December 9, 2015 at St. Mary Catholic Church, Eugene at 12:15 pm.A cat lover, she will be greatly missed by her sweet Lily.
