Obituary of Eldon Smith

Eldon LeRoy Smith passed away on February 12, 2016. Eldon was born in Eugene, OR on June 11, 1935. He was raised by his parents, Virginia (Fitch) and Adelbert Francis Smith in the rural area near Vaughn, OR. Eldon graduated from Crow High School in 1953 and attended Oregon College of Education in Monmouth for 1 year. He entered the Air Force in July 1954. He married Beverly Humphreys of Eastside OR on September 17, 1960, in Coos Bay OR. They have one daughter, Kathleen. Eldon retired from the Air Force in July 1974 and began work for the U.S. Postal Service in Salem in August. He retired from there in June 1992. In April 2011 they sold their house in South Salem and moved to Turner Retirement Homes. Eldon is survived by his wife Beverly, daughter Kathy of Turner, granddaughter Alyssa of Kona, HI, cousins Loreen Blume-Edwards, Bill Holverstott, Lana Rankin, and Dena Searles. Eldon was a long time member of Liberty Christian Church in Salem and also was a member of Turner Christian Church. A Celebration of Life will be at Liberty Christian Church, Salem, at 2:30 p.m. on February 21st. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests gifts to the Liberty Christian Church Missions Fund or to Turner Retirement Homes.
