Obituary of Russell Rhoads

Russ passed away early morning March 30, 2016 at the age of 91 after a full and productive life. He was born January 29, 1925 in Houghton, South Dakota to Olney Dwight and Floy Mae Rhoads. Russ enlisted in the Navy when he was a junior at Eugene High School, December of 1942, finishing school while in the service. He served in the Philippines during the war, maintaining the base generator and working in the engine room on a PT boat. Returning home April of 1946. On January 12, 1947 he married Irene Lucille Mart of Eugene, OR. Russ joined his father’s construction business, working in the area as an independent building contractor for many years. Later he worked for the City of Eugene in the Facilities Division, retiring in 1991. Russ was a master carpenter, continuing to work on projects during his retirement, sharing his expertise with many people. He was a member of the former Bethel Danebo Baptist Church and has attended Berean Baptist Church for a number of years. He is survived by his wife Irene, 4 children, Nancy Boire of Beaverton, OR. Nick and Mike Rhoads of Eugene and Janet Wolfe of Springfield, OR. 11 Grandchildren and 11 Great-Grandchildren. A Celebration of Life will be held at Berean Baptist Church, 1210 Chambers Eugene, OR. Sunday April 17 at 2PM. Arrangements entrusted to Lane Memorial Gardens in Eugene, OR
