Obituary of Frances F. Phillips

Frances Fillmore (Dudley) Phillips passed away in Salem on January 31, 2020. She was born November 26, 1922, in Los Angeles, California, to Ray Wharton Dudley and Lydia Natalie Dudley, and was welcomed by her older sister Dorothy Rae. Following graduation from Glendale High School Frances headed north to the University of California at Berkeley. Although she was at UC only a short time, it was long enough to meet and fall in love with Donald Woodrow Phillips. Fran and Don were married in 1942 during Don’s short leave from the Navy during WWII. Following the war, they lived in Glendale where the family grew with the births of Beverly, Don and Cliff. In 1953 the family relocated to Walnut Creek, California, where she worked as a school secretary. In 1986 Fran and Don followed their daughter and moved to Salem, Oregon. Fran was always active in her Presbyterian Church and has been 50+ year member of PEO and Alpha Chi Omega. She loved her family, friends, and playing bridge. She is survived by daughter Beverly Carrick, and son Don Jr. of Salem, and son Clifford of Albuquerque, New Mexico. She also leaves six grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. Fran was preceded in death by her husband Don, her parents and sister. Memorial services will be 2 p.m., February 17 at Westminster Presbyterian Church. Private interment will be in Willamette National Cemetery in Portland.
