Obituary of Larry Lee Nelson
Larry Lee Nelson, 79, passed away peacefully after a long illness on Easter Sunday, April 12, 2020, in Salem, Oregon. He was born on March 26, 1941, in Portland to Eugene and Ruth Nelson. His older brother, Denton Nelson (Alice), lives in Sunnyvale, California.
Larry spent most of his life in the Northwest. He graduated from Milwaukie High School in 1959. He was an Army Nike Hercules Missile repairman, Vietnam, later becoming an IBEW industrial electrician, with more than 25 years in the trade.
In his youth, Larry roller skated at Oaks Amusement Park, Portland, once competing nationally. He loved attending high school reunions and cherished the lasting relationships built with his classmates. He loved to golf and was active at Coos Country Club and recently at McNary Golf Club, Keizer. He loved hot rods, swap meets and talking cars with other “rod heads”. Larry enjoyed his union activities with Locals 932 and 48. He was a lifetime Oregon State fan and enjoyed the Mariners and the Seahawks.
Larry has two sons from his first marriage, Scott Nelson and Todd Nelson, of Portland. He married the love of his life, Mary Anne, in 1971, becoming a parent to four more children, Kyle Fenton, of Portland, Konnie Mastrovito (Eric) of Puyallup, Kathie Stanley (Brian) of Eugene, and Karol Kyte (Frank) of Sacramento. Larry loved his 12 grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren, including a great-grandson born on the day Larry passed.
At his request, no service will be held. The family plans a small celebration of life at a later date.
