Dwight Jessop

Obituary of Dwight Jessop

On July 22, 2016, father, grandfather and great-grand father, Dwight R. Jessop passed away at his self-built home in Pleasant Hill, Oregon. He was born on June 12, 1936 in Scottsbluff, Nebraska to George and Tessie Jessop. The family then moved to Golden Colorado where they had a small truck farm. The Family moved again to Oregon where he attended and graduated from Springfield High School. He then enlisted in the Navy and served in the Seabees of United States Naval Construction Forces where he learned to do building framing construction while stationed in the Marshall Islands, and became a Navy Sharpshooter. He married and started a family. Following discharge from the Navy, he returned to Eugene where he worked for Kempf Construction before going on his own to build custom houses and then large scale apartment complexes and commercial structures. After 25 years the marriage ended. In 1987 he married his true love, Nina. They had a delightful time together until she passed away in 2006. He never recovered from that loss and missed her to his last day. The other great love of his life was hunting. Elk, deer, and moose, just to name a few. The yearly Elk hunt was the biggest event of the year for him. He and his main hunting partner hunted the same area for decades and they were successful almost every year. Successful hunt or not, he always enjoyed the time spent outdoors. When not hunting, he could be found on the ocean, fishing and crabbing. Dwight is survived by a son and three daughters, eight grand kids and 11 great grand kids. Donations can be made to a foundation of your choice or to the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation. No service is planned but there will be a viewing from 9:30 to 10:30 AM on Friday 7/29 at Lane Memorial Gardens on West 11th Ave in Eugene, followed by Military Honors at graveside.
