Obituary of George Walter Krass

George Walter Krass 1962 - 2010 George Krass was born on March 1, 1962 in Edmonton, Alberta. His life didn’t really get going until he and his brother, Harry, moved out with the newlyweds Eleanor Krass and her husband, Rudi Krass, in Comotion Creek. Harry was born in 1958, and then came Holly in 1960, George in 1962, and the youngest son, Ernst was born in 1966. In 1970 the whole family relocated to Dawson Creek. George was a well traveled person and spoke French and German besides English. George’s first foreign trip was in high school when he traveled with the Central Junior High French class to England and France. After that, George made a couple trips to Germany to visit and get to know his relatives there. George’s last trip to Germany was during the days of the fall of the Berlin wall and the split of Germany in November 1989. While in high school, George learned to play the trumpet and was offered the chance to play in a local band headed by Tony Kunzel. However, George decided not to do this, even though his family had purchased and brought over a good trumpet from Germany. Following high school in Dawson Creek, George worked part time at the Petro Canada tire shop. George also worked on the moving and renovation of the granary that is now known as the Dawson Creek Gallery and Museum. After this and in the mid 1980s, George attended Okanagan College in Kelowna for two years. His daughter Angie was born on September 11, 1987. George traveled to Kamloops on Christmas Day in order to pick Angie up on Boxing Day and bring her up to Dawson Creek until the New Year. Over the years, Angela and George traveled over western Canada to places like Burnaby, Vancouver, Sooke, Calgary, etc. Following a couple of years of education in Kelowna’s Okanagan College, George returned to Dawson Creek and completed his licensed practical nursing certificate through Northern Lights College. But, shortly after that, George began working at the Dawson Creek airport and continued to do so until his passing. On August 6, 2006, George and Elena were wed on the McDermott Ranch, southwest of High Prairie. What a wonderful summer day; it was perfect. The wedded couple were deeply in love and happy. Sadly, their joy was cut short and many of the dreams that they had were never fulfilled. But, over the four years of wedded bliss, George and Elena had traveled to Edmonton for their honeymoon, Toronto for a summer holiday and for the past two years had made a regular appearance in the Okanagan where his father now lives. This past summer, George and Elena got the chance to experience the Summerland Steam Train ride which they wanted to do for over a year. While working with the City of Dawson Creek as an equipment operator for over two decades, George also worked with his union in an administrative capacity and was the treasurer for his local upon his passing. After attending a union course this past spring in Naramata, George had just realized that things were going electronic in a big way for the unions and was preparing to learn more about business computing over the next few years. George passed away suddenly on December 6, 2010 at 48 years of age. A memorial service was held on Tuesday, December 14, 2010 with Pastor Keith Thompson officiating.
