Obituary of Hector Horace Campbell

In Loving Memory Of Hector Horace Campbell Born June 02, 1924 in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Passed away May 23, 2012 in Pouce Coupe, B.C. We knew him as a father, grandfather, great-grandfather, husband, brother, a war hero, a musician, a friend. He was special to all of us in some way. He inspired us not only in what he said but also in what he did. When he was a young man he joined the Navy to fight for his country as his father had done. When he came home he married his sweetheart and together they built a home and raised their son. Hector was a real man in every sense of the word. He was hard and tough on the outside, but soft and generous with his friends and family. We are lucky to have known him and are going to miss him very much. On the day of his fifth birthday his family got off the train in Fairview, Alta. His father had arrived in the Peace Country a year earlier and built their home near Gage and was there to meet them. The tales of their life from then on occupied many entertaining hours and even a small book he wrote. From that time on he only left the Peace when he joined the Navy and after that to work in the trucking industry and pipeline work throughout Alta, and B.C. settling in Fort St. John in 1957. By 1965 he built a road that today bears his name and moved his family to their new residence at mile 58 onto a hobby farm we all grew to love. While growing up we always seemed to have music in our lives and retirement gave Hector time to learn his fiddle playing which brought him great joy. He entered talent contests, jam sessions, and played every chance he got. His great joy was playing at the Seniors Home as they enjoyed his music as much as he did. Hector was widowed in August 2006 with the passing of his wife and partner Jeannie after 50+ years together. Near the end of 2006 Hector had a stroke but he never gave up and his will to enjoy life was inspiring. For 82 of his 87 years he lived the life he enjoyed, with many good friends, laughter, and music. Though sadly he is gone to us he is with so many of his good friends and family that left earlier. I hope he will be so busy saying hello and that he is not sad he didn't have time to say goodbye. He was pre-deceased by his brother Donald and sister Shirley. Hector is survived by his son Dale (Faye) Campbell Loving Grandchildren he always bragged about: Kelly Campbell (Dean Bently) Heidi Campbell (Todd Johnson) Brett Campbell Great-grandchildren he adored Melia, Jeffery and Holly His brother, Ken from Fairview Alta, and his sisters Marion, May, Doreen, Alice and Vivian all residing in the lower mainland of B.C. A celebration of life service was held on Monday, May 28, 2012 at the Fort St. John Royal Canadian Legion. Inurnment followed in the Woodlawn cemetery, Fort St. John, British Columbia. Memorial arrangements entrusted to Bergeron Funeral Services & Crematorium Ltd.
