Fred was a wonderful teacher, mentor, and boss. I completed the dental laboratory technology program at JSRCC in 1976 and served as the work-study assistant to the program. During that time, Fred showed me, through the various tasks he assigned and opportunities he sent my way, that I was capable of accomplishing whatever I set my mind to. Once he even said "Anne can do anything" in response to a custodian's comment about me pushing a big cart around. His wise counsel and support were invaluable to a young woman in a male-dominated field (at that time, anyway).
I looked Fred up on the Internet to see if I could thank him and, sadly, found his obituary. Although my career as a dental lab tech lasted only 6-7 years, it provided some basis for a long career in pharmaceutical advertising and healthcare communication. I hope that on occasion I've been able to provide the type of mentorship I received from Fred.
