Obituary of Josephine Voigt

Edith Josephine (March) Voigt of Alvadore passed away peacefully the morning of March 28, 2020 of natural causes related to suspected metastatic colon cancer. Her daughter, Marilyn Anderson, and granddaughter, Kathy Ottovich, were by her side. She was just 14 days short of her 99th birthday. Josephine was born April 11, 1921, in Eugene, Oregon to Samuel Edmon (Ed) March and Clella Cecil (Caley) March. Josephine grew up on the March family farm west of Eugene. She began her education at Danebo Elementary School, and graduated from Eugene High School in 1939. She went on to further her education at the Eugene Vocational School. It was there she met her husband to be, Robert (Bob) Voigt. Both Josephine and Bob began their careers at the Eugene Water & Electric Board (EWEB). Josephine began her life-long career in bookkeeping as a billing control clerk directly after graduation. Bob was a newly hired lineman. They were married in Bethesda Lutheran Church in Eugene on Nov. 26, 1942, just as Bob began his life-long career with Pacific Northwest Bell as a cable splicer. This was the beginning of what was to become more than 61 years of marriage. Josephine and Bob settled into a small home on Elmira Road in Eugene, where they were blessed with two children; a son and a daughter. They later moved to larger home on Elizabeth Street in Northwest Eugene before finally settling into their “forever” home in Alvadore in 1964. Josephine worked for EWEB for more than 38 years, supporting her children, providing for their educations, and instilling in them the value of a positive work ethic. She retired in 1978 and continued spending time selflessly supporting and encouraging others. She cared deeply for the wellbeing of numerous family members and friends. She belonged to Bethesda Lutheran Church her entire life, and early in her youth played piano for church services. Josephine was the longest living member of the congregation. Her interests included sewing, embroidery, cooking, reading, gardening, scrapbooking for family members, documenting family genealogy, bird watching, camping, and traveling with Bob throughout the West. But mostly, it was supporting, being with, and caring for multiple generations of family members, which brought her immense joy. She loved having picnic trips and family dinners with her numerous extended family members. She was preceded in death by her husband Bob, her parents, her sister Vivian Fairbanks, her brother Keith March, and her grandson Robert (Rob) Voigt. Survivors include a son, Lynn Voigt and his wife Sue of Hillsboro; a daughter, Marilyn Anderson and her husband Paul of Alvadore; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, and grandnieces and grandnephews; and countless others who loved her and considered her family. A memorial service will be held at a later date, due to current social distancing requirements. A visitation, by appointment only, will be held at Musgrove Family Mortuary, 225 S. Danebo Ave. Eugene, OR on Friday, April 10th from 10.00 am-11:15 am. Please call ahead of time to schedule a viewing appointment (541-686-2818). A graveside will be live streamed on The Musgrove Facebook page at 12:00 pm following the viewing. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Bethesda Lutheran Church.
