Obituary of Betty Lassiter

Our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great great grandmother, passed away on October 26, 2016 at 6:52 p.m., after a long battle with heart disease. She was surrounded by her husband, daughter, grandson and his family, when she passed away in her home. After her son and daughter were raised, she and her husband, Bill, started a new adventure, and moved from Miami, Florida to Arcola, Illinois. They built, owned, and operated the first Interstate Dairy Queen in the United States, and won the coveted “Golden Cone Award”. While living in Arcola, Illinois, she entered college to pursue her dream of becoming a silversmith/goldsmith. She became very skilled at both. Around 1980 they moved to Glen Ellyn, Illinois, where she became the Administrative Assistant to two directors at the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago. She worked there for 14 years and retired to Eugene, Oregon to be near her daughter and her family. She was actively involved with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where she served in teaching capacities in the Relief Society. She and Bill served a local mission for the Church. She married William O. Lassiter, Jr. on June 21, 1947. They shared 69 years of marriage together. She is preceeded in death by her son, William O. Lassiter, 111, who was killed in Cambodia in 1970. He was a Cobra Gunship Pilot. She is survived by her husband, Bill, daughter Kathy (Van Criddle) Eugene, Or., grandsons Shane Criddle (Tara), Liberty Lake, Wa., Cameron Criddle (Lisa), Corvallis, Mt., Justin Criddle (Lisa), Creswell, Or., Bill Criddle (Julie), Camas, Wa., granddaughter Betty Ann Wyman (Milton), Oberlin, Ohio. There are 18 great grandkids and 2 great great grandkids. Betty said, “No”, to a funeral, but, she agreed to a celebration of life at the Lassiter Family Reunion next July. Condolences can be sent to the family @www.musgrove.com. She didn’t want flowers sent. She preferred that you send a donation to the Children’s Miracle Network, to help save a child.
