Obituary of James Mattiazzi

James “Jim” Ronald Mattiazzi 11/07/1937 – 01/08/2020 Jim Mattiazzi of Eugene Oregon passed away on January 8th, 2020 at 82 years of age. He was preceded by his loving wife Brenda Mattiazzi in 2009 and his youngest grandson James Valintio Mattiazzi in 2010. He is survived by his children Alisa and Jim Mattiazzi, grandchildren Brenda and David Blake and Huston Mattiazzi, his great grandchildren Christian, Izabelle, Easton and Tegan and his sister Judi Lanford. Jim was born on November 7th in Chico, California where he attended Chico High School and earned his Bachelor of Science in Engineering from Chico State. He served as an officer and engineer in the National Guard and enjoyed a long career as a civil engineer for the United States Forest Service. He Married Brenda on September 7th, 1963. He retired from his leadership position in the Willamette Forest and then passionately filled his life with spending time with his grandchildren, golfing, traveling with Brenda and spending as much time as possible in the forests, hunting, fishing or just hiking around. Anyone who knew Jim, knew him to be a kind, generous and humble man who lived his life with integrity and very much valued serving others. In retirement he spent years volunteering at St. Vincent De Paul and St. Peter's Church. He regularly donated to several charities, and was always willing to help anyone in need. Also known by friends as “Mataz” he had a great sense of humor, he was a talented woodcarver and had a great time playing cards and socializing with his friends. Prior to the funeral, an optional time for praying the Rosary will be provided at St. Peter’s Catholic Church 1150 Maxwell Rd. Eugene, OR 97404 on Monday 01/13/2020 at 10:30 AM. A Funeral Mass will begin at 11:00 AM and a graveside service will follow at 12:30 PM at Mt. Calvary Cemetery 220 Crest Dr. Eugene, OR 97405. In lieu of flowers, Jim’s family has requested donations be made to St. Vincent De Paul in care of St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Eugene, Oregon. His family and friends loved him very much and he will be dearly missed by all. Arrangements entrusted to Musgrove Family Mortuary.
