Obituary of Effie Barker

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 31, at Valley United Methodist Church in Veneta for Effie Ellen Barker of Veneta, who died Oct. 24 of age-related causes. She was 83. She was born Feb. 20, 1926, in Brown County, S.D., to Olney and Floy Sunday Rhoads. She married Walter Barker on June 30, 1946, in Eugene. She graduated from Eugene High School and attended college for two years. She was a piemaker for A&W Restaurant and a homemaker. Survivors include her husband; three daughters, Phyllis Burge of Prineville, Patty Liles of Sherwood and Ellen Engholm of Elmira; two sons, Bruce Barker of Veneta and Dale Barker; a brother, Russell Rhoads of Eugene; and 12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. A granddaughter, Jenny Liles, died previously. A 1:30 p.m. inurnment at Lane Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home will follow Saturday's memorial service.
