Obituary of Bernice Jensen

Bernice Ovida Jensen, age 95, passed away on October 13, 2014. She was born on January 5, 1919 in Ruskin, Nebraska to Jens and Christina Keldsen, joining older sister, Esther in the family.Bernice was baptized and confirmed at Bethany Lutheran church in Ruskin and graduated from Hardy High School in 1937. After graduation she went to Omaha and worked at Emanuel Hospital. After two years Bernice went to Los Angeles, California to meet Otto Jensen, her high school sweetheart. They were married on June 1, 1940. Otto and Bernice lived in Los Angeles for 13 years and during this time had two children, Ken and Bev. The family moved to Eugene in 1953 where Otto and Bernice started Jensen Landscaping, a business they operated for 30 years. Bernice also worked as a cook for many years in Eugene School District 4J.Otto and Bernice loved to square dance and were members of the Wagon Wheelers. They travelled extensively with friends and visited all 50 states. They were members of Good Sam’s Club and Sojourners. Otto and Bernice were proud of their Danish heritage and were members of the Danish Brotherhood. They loved to entertain family and friends in their home and Bernice was an excellent cook. They were married for 61 years before Otto’s death in 2001.Bernice loved to do needlework and was talented at flower arrangements and cake decorating. She was an active member of Bethesda Lutheran Church and loved her Lord and Savior dearly. She attended her women’s circle (Bible Study) group and served on the Altar Guild.Bernice is survived by her son Ken Jensen and his wife Karen; daughter Bev Hada and her husband Russ; grandchildren, Melissa Strube (Mark) and Chad Jensen (Tracy); great grandchildren, Garrett and Jacob Strube and step great grandchildren, Mackenzie and Zach Johnson.A public viewing will be on Wednesday, October 22nd from 3:00 to 7:00 PM at Musgrove Family Mortuary. A Graveside Service will be held on Thursday, October 23rd at 10:00 AM, at West Lawn Memorial Park. A Memorial Service is planned at Bethesda Lutheran Church, Thursday, October 23rd at 11:00 AM.Memorial Contributions can be made in Loving Memory of Bernice to The Eugene Mission.Arrangements entrusted to Musgrove Family Mortuary.
