Obituary of Ted Smith

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 11, at Valley Covenant Church for Ted D. Smith of Eugene, who died Dec. 3 of respiratory failure. He was 55.He was born Sept. 14, 1954, in Birmingham, Ala., to Max and Myra Smith. He and his wife, Kathy, were married on Nov. 15, 1986, in Artesia, Calif.He served in the U.S. Navy. He graduated from California State University, Long Beach with a bachelor’s degree and from the University of California, Los Angeles with a master’s degree in library information sciences. He was a librarian at the University of Oregon’s Knight Library.Survivors include his wife; his mother, Myra Carroll Mize of Trussville, Ala.; his father of Cropwell, Ala.; two sons, Collin and Trevor, both of Eugene; two sisters, Sandy Malchus of Trussville and Sonya Creel; and a brother, Greg Carroll of Trussville.Arrangements by Lane Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home in Eugene.
