Obituary of April Moran
April Anne Moran Died of heart and respiratory complications at age 73 on October 13, 2019 in Eugene where she had lived since 2009. Survived by her husband Ross Moran of Eugene and daughter Megan Moran of Colton, CA. Education & Career: She earned a BA Journalism from UO in 1968 and an MSW from Portland State in 1981. She retired as a Social Worker from San Bernardino County (CA) Public Health following a career working with Pregnant and Parenting Teens. Earlier, while living in Saudi Arabia she prepared home studies in support of international adoptions. Still earlier she held a variety of support positions in educational and social service agencies such as Church Secretary to the Eugene First Christian Church and Secretary to the Lane County Sanitarians. Personal Pursuits: She enjoyed gardening, reading, volunteer work, and maintaining postal correspondence with friends from former places lived and jobs held. In retirement she participated in several local groups in various capacities such as with the Hearing Loss Association of America, Eugene Newcomers Club, Tai Chi, tutoring, hospice and Book Groups. Consistent with her value of reading, as a Mother, for several years she would read three books to her daughter for every bedtime and as a family we are grateful to have been able to similarly read and recount stories to her in her final days. She was passionate about hearing loss issues, long a potential donor to the National Temporal Bone Bank, and helping with the HLAA Lane County newsletter and the distribution of hearing related educational materials to community organizations. Not coincidentally her friends have long noted her friendly characteristics as a thoughtful and engaged listener. Her public and personal actions reflected her personal qualities of compassion, kindness, thoughtfulness and consideration consistent with warm personal connections with others that spanned decades. She will be greatly missed. In Remembrance: In accordance with her caring work and interests with teen mothers and public health, a donation to Planned Parenthood of Southwestern Oregon in support of maternal health would be a worthy tribute. https://www.plannedparenthood.org/planned-parenthood-southwestern-oregon
