Obituary of Helen Soward

Helen SowardA memorial service will be held today, Feb. 9, at First Baptist Church on Meadow Road for Helen R. Soward of Eugene, who died Feb. 2 of age-related causes. She was 88. A private family burial will be held in Rest-Haven Memorial Park.Soward was born Aug. 14, 1921, in Julesburg, Colo., to William and Rachel Ritchey Randolph. She married Amos Bower Soward Jr. on May 26, 1944, in Sterling, Colo.She graduated from the University of Denver with an associate’s degree and earned a bachelor of arts degree and a master of library sciences degree from the University of Oregon. She worked as a librarian for Springfield Public Schools for 20 years.Survivors include a daughter, Diane Dunstan of Portland and two sons, Thomas Soward of Lorane and Christopher Soward of Corvallis.
