George SheperdCRESWELL — A celebration of life will be at 1 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 14, at the HEDCO Education Building at the University of Oregon for George Sheperd of Creswell, who died Feb. 9 of lymphoma. He was 77. A private graveside service will be on Friday at Rest-Haven Memorial Park in Eugene.He was born Jan. 10, 1933, in Greeley, Colo., to Paul and Susan Kohut Sheperd. He married twice, and both marriages ended in divorce.He received a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree from the University of Northern Colorado, and a doctorate in education from the University of Illinois. He served two years in the Air Force as a flight navigator for weather reconnaissance.He participated in the special education training program at the University of Oregon for 30 years, and founded the Summer Enrichment Program for talented and gifted students. He was granted professor emeritis status after retiring in 1995.Survivors include a daughter, Karen Sheperd-Esposito of Los Angeles; two sisters, Joan Moser of Henderson, Nev., and Barbara Sheperd of Greeley; and a brother, Robert Sheperd of Greeley. A daughter, Kristy Suzanne Sheperd, died in 1977.Arrangements by Musgrove Family Mortuary in Eugene.
