Obituary of Durwood McDowell

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 25, at Riviera Baptist Church in Eugene for Durwood H. McDowell of Eugene, who died Feb. 15 of cancer. He was 79. Entombment will be at Lane Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home in Eugene.He was born Nov. 12, 1930, at Lake Worth, Fla., to Chris and Hollie Maddox McDowell. He married Sylvia Mossey on Feb. 28, 1954, in Reno, Nev.He attended two years of college and served in the U.S. Navy as an IC electrician aboard the USS Helena during the Korean War.He retired as a head custodian after 25 years with the Eugene School District.Survivors include his wife; a daughter, July Shoemaker of Eugene, two sons, Jeff of Veneta and Chris of Eugene; two brothers, Loren of Eugene and Chris of Georgia; and six grandchildren.Arrangements by Lane Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home.
