Obituary of Howard Durbin

The funeral will be held at noon Monday, March 8, at St. Alice Catholic Church in Springfield for Howard F. Durbin of Springfield, who died Feb. 27 of age-related causes. He was 97.He was born May 3, 1912, in Alexander, Minn., to Anthony and Mathilda Walters Durbin. He married Lois Plath on Nov. 12, 1942, in San Diego.He worked as an equipment operator at McNutt Company. After serving in the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific during World War II, he joined three of his brothers in Durbin Brothers Construction. He and his brother, Clarence, operated C&H Durbin Construction from 1961 until his retirement in 1971.Survivors include his wife; a son, Michael of Eugene; two daughters, Michelle Overall and Debbie Durbin, both of Springfield; a brother, Wallace of Eugene; a sister, Helen Michael of Oregon City; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. Monday at Springfield Memorial Gardens.
