Obituary of Ilene Peterson

Ilene PetersonA memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, March 18, at Avamere of Newberg for Ilene Rita Cotnoir Peterson of Newberg, formerly of Lane County, who died March 3 of colon cancer. She was 92.She was born Jan. 4, 1918, in Butte, Mont., to Joseph and Clara Cotnoir. She married Glenn Peterson on Oct. 25, 1941, in Portland. He died April 20, 1992.She attended Sellwood Elementary, Peninsula Grade School and Girls’ Polytechnic High School. She was a homemaker, operated a cleaning and ironing business out of her home during World War II, and worked as a checker at Safeway for 18 years. She also worked as a florist, at a soda fountain and as a bookkeeper for her husband’s business.Survivors include two daughters, Nancy Winkler of Grants Pass and Carol Morgan of Newberg; a sister, Lucille VanBeek of Portland; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.Arrangements by England’s Eugene Memorial Chapel.
