Obituary of Jay Hilmer

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 1, 2010 at the Santa Clara Church of Christ, 2600 Belmont Street, Eugene, Oregon for Jay R. Hilmer of Eugene, Oregon formerly of Chico. He died on Tuesday, April 27, 2010 due to complications arising from Leukemia of a rare blood disorder known as Myelodysplagia. He was born on January 20, 1947, in Burbank, California to Dale and Evalyn Hilmer. He married his love, Debbie Ahl in 1981. Hilmer grew up in the then small town of Escondido, California, and graduated from Palomar Junior college and California Western University in 1968 with a B.A. in Psychology. He was proud for his subsequent service in the Air Force from 1968-1972 and serving in the Viet Nam era. He graduated from Long Beach State in 1974 with a B.A in Physical Therapy, and from Redlands University in 1982 with an M.A. in Health Care Management. Throughout his career he held positions in Rehabilitation and Hospital Administration, his final position being the Vice President of Rehabilitation Services for Pinnacle Healthcare, Inc. in Oregon. His love was of the outdoors, whether it was boating, hiking, or fishing, and he most enjoyed camping with his family and friends and cooking special meals. Those friends, close or distant, knew Jay as a loving and caring person, always willing to make sure other needs were met before his own. He was especially proud of his children and their desire to pursue a career in health care. He was preceded in death by his father, Dale. He is survived by his wife, Debbie, of Eugene; son, Jayson of Chico; daughter Jayme of Eugene; mother Evalyn of Escondido; and brother, Steve of Barrington Hills, Illinois. Funeral arrangements are though Musgrove Family Mortuary of Eugene. Remembrances may be made to any Christian Church or organization. His ashes will be returned to the areas he loved.
