Obituary of Sylvester Davis

Sylvester "Sy" Davis, 93, of Veneta passed away on December 22, 2016. He was born in Belcourt, ND, on November 1, 1923. He was educated on a reservation mission school in ND. He was a member of the Turtle Mountain Band of the Chippewa Tribe. He served as a Marine in WWII and was injured in combat. He was awarded the Purple Heart Medal. He married his school sweetheart, Stella Davis, on November 28, 1946. They had four daughters. He was the oldest member of the Veneta VFW. He is survived by his daughters Darlene (Duane) Hickson of Eugene and Devonne (Ronald) Woods of Eugene, a sister Stella "Fee" Davis, 11 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, and 5 great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Stella and also his daughters Carey Finley and Lorena "Punky" Gorham. Donations can be made to the American Cancer Society in lieu of flowers.There will be a visitation from 12-1:00 p.m. on December 29, 2016 at Lane Memorial Funeral Home followed by the funeral service at 1:00 p.m.Arrangements entrusted to Lane Memorial Funeral Home.
