Robert WrenBurial will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 26, at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland for Robert Earl Wren of Eugene, who died May 21 at age 88 of age-related causes associated with Parkinson’s disease.A memorial service will be held later.He was born Jan. 9, 1922, in Walla Walla, Wash., to Earl and Emma Hoffman Wren. He married Joan D. Eggink in March 1976 in Hawaii.He was a first lieutenant in the Marine Corps in the Pacific during World War II. He earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Oregon in 1944. He worked as an insurance agent and business owner.Survivors include his wife; five sons, Dale Wren of Las Vegas, William Wren of Kodiak, Alaska, Lawrence Wren of Eugene, Mark Eggink of Ferndale, Wash., and Steve Eggink of Red Hook, N.Y.; two daughters, Catherine Shafer of Eugene and Kimberly Evans of Creswell; and 12 granddaughters and one great-granddaughter. A son, Richard Wren, died previously.Arrangements by Musgrove Family Mortuary in Eugene.A memorial service for Robert E. Wren is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Monday, June 21st at United Lutheran Church at 2230 Washington Street in Eugene, Oregon. "Bob, Birdie, Poppy" Wren passed away at his home on May 21st of age-related causes associated with Parkinson's disease. Burial with military honors was held on May 26 at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland, Oregon. He was 88. He was born January 9, 1922 in Walla Walla, Washington and raised in Portland, Oregon. He graduated from the University of Oregon in 1947 with a Business Administration degree and played and lettered for Coach Howard Hobson's 1941-43 teams. Prior to his deployment to the Pacific in late 1944, he attended Officer's Training at the University of Washington. During this time, he played for UW in the 1944 Rose Bowl against USC. After his overseas tour of duty serving as a First Lieutenant in the Marine Corps in Guadalcanal, Okinawa, Guam and Japan, he went back to the UO and completed his degree in 1947. He was also a member of the University of Oregon Delta Upsilon fraternity. He worked as an insurance agent business owner in Eugene for over 30 years and had five children with his first wife Patricia Keck. He married Joan Eggink in 1976 in Hawaii and was a supportive father to her three children. Family members include: Richard Wren (deceased), Dale Wren, William Wren, Cathy Shafer and husband Calvin, Lawrence Wren and his wife Diane, Kimberly Evans and husband Bob, Mark Eggink and wife LaVonne and Steven Eggink and wife Catherine. Bob also has 12 granddaughters and one great-granddaughter.
