Obituary of Hilda Evans

The funeral Mass will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Thursday, June 17, at St. Alice Catholic Church in Springfield for Hilda Marie Evans of Springfield, who died June 11 of age-related causes. She was 93. Recitation of the Rosary will be at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Springfield Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home.She was born Oct. 18, 1916, in Nyssa to Marinus and Gysbertha Vanderleauw Smit. She married Stephen Evans on April 20, 1938, in Ontario. He died April 19, 1997.She graduated from Ontario High School. She worked as a nurses’ aide at Serenity Lane for 14 years.Survivors include two sons, Gregory of Spanish Springs, Nev., and Stephen of Eugene; two daughters, Julia Bodine of Junction City and Shannon Kephart of Walterville; three sisters, Wilhelmina Yraguen of Ontario, Maria Smith of Canby and Paula Meeker of Fruitland, Idaho; nine grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. A daughter, Paula Jane Evans, died in 2004, and an infant son, Theodore Evans, died previously.Burial will be at Springfield Memorial Gardens. Remembrances to the Carmelite Nuns in Eugene.
