Obituary of Milton Cook

A memorial service will be held at Junction City First Baptist Church, Sunday, July 18th at 3:00 p.m. for Milton Roy Cook. He was born July 12, 1941 in Bakersfield, CA. He went to be with his Lord and Savior on July 10, 2010 at age 68. Milton served in the Air Force as an airplane mechanic from 1959 to 1961. On June 28, 1961 he married Retha J. Bevins in Bakersfield. Almost anywhere you travel in central and southern California you'll be traveling on roads he helped build, plus many aqueducts and dams. Many wind turbines were also raised by him in the Tehachapi Mountains of California. In 1974 there was a big change in his life as he moved his family to Brookings, Oregon to undertake the occupation of commercial fisherman. He loved being on the "big pond" and was very successful both in fishing and in making lifelong friendships. In the 1990s he began work for the California State Prison System, retiring there in 2003. He loved people, never meeting a stranger. He always desired that they would know the Lord in a personal way as he did. His infectious laugh endeared him to all he met. He finished strong the race that was set before him! Since moving to Harrisburg in 2004, some of his greatest joys and happiness has been attending First Baptist Church in Junction City, Monday night Men's Bible Study, Sunday night Care Group, and working as a Cubbie Bear in Awana's for the precious children. He loved studying the Bible, especially the Old Testament. He was blessed to sit under the teachings of two great men of God, Andy Walker of Tehachapi, CA and Ted Slaeker of Junction City, OR. He will be greatly missed by his wife of 49 years, Retha Cook of Harrisburg; daughter Jill Moore of Junction City, OR; son Eric Cook (Teresa Cook) of Brookings, OR; granddaughter, Sasha Snidow (Luke Snidow) of Yachats, OR; grandson Sheldon Moore of Creswell, OR; grandson Shayne Moore of Junction City, OR; Austin and grandsons, Austin and Casey Cook of Brookings, OR; great-grandson Zane Snidow of Yachats; father John Cook of Concord, CA; his sister Rosemary Campbell of Antioch, CA; sister Diana Spaulding of Bakersfield, CA; and his brother James Cook of Concord, CA. He is preceded in death by his mother Cleo Ussery. Please sign the guest book at www.registerguard.com/legacy
