R. Larry WorstellA memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, July 26, at Trinity United Methodist Church in Eugene for R. Larry Worstell of Eugene, who died July 8 of age-related causes. He was 90.He was born Feb. 5, 1920, in Enterprise to Ralph and Winifred Launer Worstell. He married Charlotte Wales on Dec. 2, 1945, in Klamath Falls.He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in forest management from Oregon State University in 1949. After Pearl Harbor he joined the U.S. Army and enlisted in officer candidate school. As a lieutenant, he participated in the D-Day invasion, landing at Omaha Beach and fighting in the Battle of the Bulge. He was discharged as a captain.Worstell worked for the U.S. Forest service for 28 years in various capacities, including a fire lookout, district ranger and deputy supervisor of the Willamette National Forest. He retired in 1977.Survivors include his wife; three sons, Mike of Portland, Tom of Hermiston and John of Springfield; a brother, Robert of Twin Falls, Idaho; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.Arrangements by Musgrove Family Mortuary in Eugene.
