Obituary of Daniel Volk

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 7, at St. Alice Catholic Church in Springfield for Daniel “Dan” George Volk of Springfield, who died July 28 of colon cancer. He was 61.He was born Feb. 8, 1949, in Harvey, N.D., to William and Elizabeth Schiele Volk. He married Sherry Ann Hirschey on July 14, 1972, in Springfield.He graduated from Minot (N.D.) High School in 1968, served in the U.S. Navy for two years, and worked in outside sales for 36 years at Industrial Source.Survivors include his wife; his mother; two daughters, Danielle Uerlings of Corvallis and Brandi Cordell of Springfield; a son, Dustin Volk of McChord Air Force Base, Wash.; six sisters, Yvonne Kleppe, Caroline Heintz and Martina Witham, all of Springfield, Elizabeth Johnson of Minot, N.D., Linda Schmeichel of St. Paul, Minn., and Patricia Larsen of Lake Tapps, Wash.; two brothers, Gary Volk of Minot and Jerome Volk of Oregon City; and five grandchildren. An infant son, Michael, died in 1980.Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., and recitation of the Rosary at 7 p.m., on Friday, Aug. 6, at Springfield Memorial Gardens.Arrangements by Springfield Memorial Gardens.
