Obituary of Edna South

Edna SouthSPRINGFIELD — A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 5, at Rose City Funeral Home & Cemetery in Portland for Edna South of Springfield, who died July 26 of age-related causes. She was 98. Visitation will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.She was born Sept. 17, 1911, in Paden, Miss., to Shelly and Bertha Felker Gortney. She married John South in 1927 in Paden, Miss. He died in 1991.She was a homemaker.Survivors include three sons, Jerry of Eugene, Ray of Damascus and Terry of Portland; a daughter, Sherry Reynolds of Clancy, Mont.; a brother, Clyde Gortney of Georgia; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren. Three sons died previously, Pat in 1967, Bill in 2000, and Harold in 2006.Burial will be at Rose City Cemetery in Portland. Arrangements by Musgrove Family Mortuary in Eugene.
