Oscar ThomsenA memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 10, at Trinity Lutheran Church for Oscar R. “Bud” Thomsen of Eugene, who died Aug. 5 of heart failure. He was 83. A reception will be held following the service at 3 p.m. at the Sons of Norway Lodge in Eugene.He was born Jan. 20, 1927, in Junction City to Oscar and Hanna Nielsen Thomsen. He married Kathryn Torkelson on Sept. 12, 1949, in Reno, Nev.He graduated from Junction City High School in 1944 and served in the Army Air Corps from 1944 through 1947. He worked in the timber industry as a truck driver and a mill worker for about 10 years. He worked for Alber’s Milling, was a truck driver for Hamilton Construction, and drove trucks and operated heavy equipment for Lane County Public Works for 15 years before retiring in 1989.Survivors include his wife; three sons, Glenn of Roanoke, Va., Gary of Eugene, and Steven of Bettendorf, Iowa; and eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.Arrangements by Musgrove Family Mortuary in Eugene.
