Obituary of Howard Smith

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 18, at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church for Howard Edward Smith of Eugene, who died Aug. 14 of complications from Alzheimer’s at age 80. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church.He was born Jan. 16, 1930, in Page, Neb., to William and Verna Stewart Smith. He married Betty Ann Williams on July 1, 1950, in Eugene.He graduated from Elmira High School. He worked in the lumber industry for 32 years, retiring as resident manager of Vaughn operations for International Paper Co. He was owner of Tom’s Tapper Tavern in Glenwood.Survivors include his wife; a son, Michael of Tualatin; a daughter, Leah Snyder of Eugene; a sister, Norma Weich of Springfield; and one grandchild.Arrangements by Lane Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home in Eugene.
