Obituary of Mary Whelchel-Johnson
JUNCTION CITY — The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 7, at Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church in Junction City for Mary Norma Whelchel-Johnson of Junction City, who died Sept. 1 of complications from cancer. She was 80.Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. to noon Tuesday at Murphy-Musgrove Funeral Home in Junction City.She was born Feb. 7, 1930, in Scott City, Kan. She married Frankie Whelchel on Aug. 26, 1952, in Kitsap County, Wash. He died previously. She married Lloyd Johnson on April 15, 1999, in Reno, Nev.She picked hops, cherries and walnuts, worked at a plywood mill in Florence, owned and operated a hairdressing salon in Pleasant Hill, managed apartment buildings in Springfield, cleaned up construction sites and was a homemaker.Survivors include her husband; three daughters, Nikki Vian of Springfield, Laurie Beaulieu of Junction City and Shannon Cannon of Las Vegas; a son, Leonard Whelchel of Aumsville; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.Burial will be at Pacific Sunset Cemetery in Florence.
