Obituary of Hazel Powell

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 17, at Springfield Church of God for Hazel Lilly Powell of Eugene, who died Sept. 11 of age-related causes. She was 82. Visitation will be held at noon at Springfield Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home.She was born July 24, 1928, in Burns to Roy and Orpha Combs Hutchison. She married Arden Powell on May 2, 1948, in Cottage Grove. He died Feb. 24, 2008.She graduated from Warner Pacific Bible College in Portland. She worked as a secretary at Oregon Institute of Technology in Klamath Falls, as secretary at the Baptist church in Chico, Calif., bookkeeper at Surft Trucking, secretary at the Marine Science Center and placement coordinator at the University of Oregon.Survivors include two daughters, Sherri Stuart of Oak Harbor, Wash., and Becky Murry of Eugene; seven grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.Entombment will be at Springfield Memorial Gardens.
