Obituary of Shirley Cole

Shirley ColeShirley Musette Cole of Eugene died Oct. 30 of age-related causes. She was 87. No service is planned.She was born Oct. 27, 1923, in Dunlap, Iowa, to Platte and Nellie Mefferd Marley. She married David L. Cole on Feb. 24, 1961, in Portland.She studied anthropology at the University of Oregon and earned a teaching certificate for postgraduate work. She reached the rank of corporal in the Women’s Army Corps during World War II. She worked as a stewardess for the Union Pacific Railroad and as a dance teacher.Survivors include her husband; a son, David E. Cole of Springfield; a daughter, Keri Elliott of Eugene; a sister, Dorothy Krapes of Eugene; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. A daughter, Lisa Cole, died previously.Arrangements by England’s Eugene Memorial Chapel.
