Obituary of Suedrine Fourie

FOURIE: Dr. Suedrine Louw (Fourie) from Brandon, Manitoba passed away peacefully on the 10th of February 2013 after a long battle with cancer, with her family by her bedside. She leaves behind her husband, Theo, sons Jean and Philip, daughter Surien, mother, Rina Louw in Brandon and brothers Louwtjie and Eben Louw in South Africa. She was born in Harare, Zimbabwe and was raised on the family farm. After graduating high school she decided to study education in South Africa. She taught science to high school students for seven years and then decided to pursue her dream of becoming a doctor. She graduated from Medical School at the University of Stellenbosch in 1983 and then moved to Port Elizabeth, South Africa after marrying her husband. There they raised their three children until 2003 when the family decided to immigrate to Canada. Here she worked as a family physician alongside her husband, Dr. Theo Fourie, at the Western Medical Clinic. She was much loved by her very loyal patients who enjoyed their visits and talks with her on a regular basis. She always gave her all to her patients and tried to be a mentor, be a friend and companion to them. She was a very committed Christian and always involved in her congregation, the First Christian Reformed Church, and on committees where her expertise could be utilized. She dedicated her life to the Lord and tried to serve him in every capacity of her life. She loved the arts and enjoyed classical music, ballet and the opera tremendously. She was always a very creative person; creating, designing and sewing clothes, doing crafts and being creative in the home. Her home was her haven and a true reflection of her personality. She enjoyed people's company and always had someone over to share, cry and sympathise with. She was wise in handing out advice and sharing people's lives. We will all miss her. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on 27th April 2013 at Central United Church,327-8th Street, when her youngest son, Philip, will be back from his studies abroad. If friends so desire, a donation in memory of Suedrine can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, -193 Sherbrook Street, Winnipeg, MB, R3C 2B7. The family would like to extend a very special thank you to all the doctors that were involved with her care and to all the staff at the Palliative Care ward at Brandon Regional Health Centre who made her life so much easier over the past month.
