Peter was born on August 22, 1926, the youngest of five children to Rose and William Romanik in Brandon, Manitoba. He grew up in Brandon graduating from Brandon Collegiate Institute with a grade 11 education. He married the love of his life, Emily Simbalist on November 20, 1948 and they shared 65 wonderful years together. Peter began his career with the Manitoba Hydro in 1948 starting out as a meter reader in Brandon. In 1962, Peter and his family moved to Portage La Prairie where he became the Commercial Representative. In 1967, Peter was transferred to Winnipeg becoming the Commercial Supervisor for the Suburban East area and eventually transferred to the Marketing Department in 1968. With regionalization in 1972, Peter moved back to Brandon as Business Manager for the Western Region, the position he eventually retired from after 37 years of service. Peter was very active in St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church becoming a full-time Cantor in his retirement where he shared many hours in spiritual activities, the Men's Club, and other social events. Dad was an avid reader and was well known at the Brandon Public Library. He enjoyed watching sports on TV including hockey, football, curling, golf and baseball. Dad also enjoyed dabbling in real estate and was always on the look-out for a great deal on a car. Dad was most happy hosting the weekly family Saturday lunches and many family get-togethers. Peter was pre-deceased by his parents, one sister and three brothers. He lived a full dedicated life touching the lives of many. Dad was a devoted father, husband and amazing Gigi who imparted his wisdom and guidance on us helping us to become who we are today. For that we are forever grateful. The family would like to thank Dr. Butler and the staff on 400 West for the care Dad received while he was in the hospital. Divine Liturgy will be held at St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church, 927 Assiniboine Avenue, on Tuesday, February 12, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. with Fr. Michael Tkachuk officiating. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Heart & Stroke Foundation, Unit 3-824-18th Street, Brandon, MB, R7A 5B7, would be appreciated.
