Obituary of Earl Woods

WOODS: Earl Woods was born on August 22, 1927 in Masefield, Saskatchewan to Katherine and William Swerbyus on a Saskatchewan homestead. Later, in 1932, they moved to Vernon, BC where his father managed a dairy and fruit orchard. After 10 years, they decided to move back to Manitoba. Both of his parents were born in the Sifton area north of Dauphin. Earl attended Sifton High School. After graduation, he went to work for Canada Post in eastern Ontario. Earl's heart was on the farm, so he returned after several years, where he farmed together with his Dad. He enjoyed fishing and hunting as well as old time music on the radio. He spent many hours in the forest cutting firewood. In 1964, his family decided to retire and chose Carberry, Manitoba as their new home. After a short illness, his father passed away. Earl lived with his mother, taking care of her. Later, when his mother passed on, Earl moved to Brandon to Hillcrest Seniors Care Home until his passing on November 3, 2012. Earl passed away peacefully in his sleep. Earl is survived by brothers Bill of Hinton, Alberta and Walter of Rainy River, Ontario. His sister, Anne of Carnduff, Saskatchewan, predeceased him in 2011. A private memorial service took place on Wednesday, November 7, 2012 at the Brockie Donovan Chapel. Interment followed at the Brandon Cemetery. Donations in memory of Earl may be made to The Salvation Army, 9 Princess Avenue East, Brandon, MB, R7A 1R9.
