Obituary of Florence Primrose MacKay

MacKay: With great sadness we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Florence Primrose MacKay, at the Brandon Regional Health Centre on September 17, 2012, at the age of 96 years. She will be deeply missed by her daughters, Sandra Wallace (Larry), Karen Johnston (Bob), Coleen Bryson (Harley), Cheryle Hoglander (Dwayne), Ronelda Paddock (Wayne Kreller), her ten grandchildren, Travis (Terri), Tod (Penny), Kyle (Tracy), Keely (Eugen), Kathryn (Dave), Jeremy (Devon), Lars, Tyler, Rebecca, Sarah, and nine great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her dear husband, Ronald, infant son, Ray, four brothers and three sisters. She also leaves to mourn her passing her sister Dorothy (Bob) Arran and sister-in-law, Bernie Galbraith, and numerous nephews and nieces. Florence was born on June 1st, 1916, the sixth child of Duncan and Elizabeth Galbraith. She grew up on the family farm and took her schooling in Stockton, MB. She met the love of her life, Ronnie, and they were married in 1938. Dad and Mum farmed at Hilton and Ninette before moving to Virden, Brandon and Alexander. After Ronnie's passing in 1977, Mum moved back to Brandon where she has resided ever since. Mum's main focus in life was her family. She enjoyed the frequent family gatherings and was interested in catching up on everyone's busy lives. She spent countless hours reading, working on puzzles, and keeping her mind sharp. She had an enquiring mind and was always ready for new adventures. She kept up with what was current on a wide range of topics. The pallbearers and honorary pallbearers at her funeral were her ten grandchildren. Special thanks to the wonderful staff on A3 Palliative Care and Doctors Blythe and Large. A private family interment will be held at the Hilton Cemetery on Friday, September 21, 2012, followed by a memorial service at the Brockie Donovan Chapel at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Craig Miller of Knox United Church officiating. Donations in memory of Florence may be made to The Arthritis Society, Suite 105, 386 Broadway Avenue, Winnipeg, MB, R3C 3R6, or The Brandon Regional Health Centre Foundation, "Palliative Care", 150 McTavish Ave. E., Brandon, MB, R7A 2B3.
