Obituary of Ella Roste

ROSTE: Ella Roste of Brandon passed away at her residence, Fairview Home, on Saturday, May 19, 2012 at the age of 88 years. Ella will be sadly missed by her husband of 71 years, Len Roste of Hobbs Manor, Brandon; her children: Len (Marion), Winnipeg, Bev (Dave), Wallaceburg, ON, Linda (Dallas), Flin Flon, Brad (Benita), Brandon, Dianne (Al), Thompson, Dale (Jonatha), Saskatoon, SK, and Barb (Marcel), Brandon. She was predeceased by her son, Leroy. Ella had three sisters and seven brothers. The "Burke" family lived in the Kenora/Rainy River area. Ella married Len in 1923 and moved to Atikokan, ON for many years. During WWII when Len was overseas, Ella looked after the two boys. The family then moved to Percival, Whitewood and Moosomin, SK where Ella managed restaurants. The next move was to Thompson, MB for many years, then Len retired to Swan River. Their final move was to Brandon. In Thompson, Ella was passionate about YBC (Youth Bowling), was a jail-guard for the RCMP and was President/Life Member of the Legion Ladies Auxiliary. Being an excellent cook, she coordinated banquets for the Thompson Legion (which was a huge help in paying down the Legion mortgage). Ella loved camping, cooking, playing cards, Bingo, travel and knitting mitts for the local schools and hospital kids. A family celebration of her life has taken place in Brandon. Her generosity and fabulous food will be missed by the many grandchildren and great grandchildren. A special thank you to all the staff and volunteers who shared the last few years with Ella at the Fairview Home. MISS ME, BUT LET ME GO When I come to the end of the road And the sun has set for me, I want no rites in a gloom filled room, Why cry for a soul set free? Miss me a little, but not too long And not with your head bowed low, Remember the love that we once shared Miss me, but let me go. For this journey we all must take And each must go alone, It's part of the Master's plan, A step on the road to home. So when you are lonely and sick at heart Go to the friends we know, And bury your sorrows in doing good deeds, Miss me, but let me go.
