Obituary of Dorothy Bernice "BJ" Jackson
JACKSON: Dorothy Bernice "BJ." It is with sadness that we announce the passing of our mom, Dorothy Bernice Jackson. Mom passed away peacefully on March 26th, 2012. Bernice was born July 21st, 1927 in Brandon. She was the oldest daughter of Dorothy Eva (née Sutherland) and Fredrick Booth Wallace. She attended school at Griswold and completed her grade twelve in Hamiota, MB. She then taught school on a teaching permit at Mount Vernon School for one year. In 1945, mom attended Normal School in Winnipeg and completed her teaching certificate in 1946. She taught at numerous one room schools, Grand Valley School, Wallace, Robinville, finishing her teaching career at Rivers Elementary where she taught for 11 years. Mom met Roy Jackson while teaching at Mount Vernon – they married July 2nd, 1949. They had two girls, Sharon Rasmussen (Russell deceased) and Tannis McPhail (Robert). After Roy passed away, mom moved to Brandon. She traveled from time to time and played golf but her favorite pastime was playing bridge or card games of any kind. She leaves to mourn her passing sister Isabel Goodwin (Doug), daughters, Sharon, Tannis (Robert), two grandchildren, Jackie Howard (Shane), Ryan Rasmussen (Samantha), four great grandchildren, Faith Colleen, William Robert, Sophia Katrene Howard and Ella Mae Rasmussen. In keeping with BJ's wishes, cremation will take place and a private family service will be held.
