Obituary of Garry Norman Wilkinson

WILKINSON: Garry Norman Wilkinson passed away peacefully with his family at his side on November 29, 2011. He was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia on February 13, 1950 to Mary and Norman Wilkinson. The family moved to Brandon when he was a small boy. He attended David Livingston school, Brandon Collegiate Institute, then went on to get his plumbing and gas fitting license. He worked for a couple of different companies before starting his own business - Garry Wilkinson Plumbing and Heating. He was never afraid to try a new venture - from selling real estate, owning hotels, a corner store, gas station to owning and operating G W Vacuum Truck Services - but his main love always was trucking. He started this at the age of 18 and went back to it many times between ventures. On May 31, 1986, Garry married Susan Kiliwnik and two years later their family became complete with the arrival of their daughter, Sara. He enjoyed stock car racing, fishing, golfing and spending time with his friends. In his younger years, he spent many hours at the YMCA, swimming and practicing judo. Garry is survived by his loving wife Susan, his daughter Sara and son-in-law Brandon Price. Also by his niece Lesley (Phillip) Allen and their children, Austin and Thomas, nephew Dean Owen, sister Linda (Bruce) Owen, in-laws, Walter and Anne Kiliwnik, Brian and Teresa Kiliwnik and their children, Martine and Dustin, many cousins and extended family. He was predeceased by his parents. A Celebration of Garry's life will be held at the Brockie Donovan Chapel, on Friday, December 2, 2011 with Rev. Barb Jardine officiating. Donations in memory of Garry may be made to the Westman Dreams For Kids Foundation, Unit 2, 37-11th Street, Brandon, MB, R7A 4J2.
