Obituary of Margaret Ida Stimson
Margaret Ida Stimson (née Seddon), age 86 years of Brandon, passed away peacefully with her loving son by her side on Monday, August 22, 2011 at the Assiniboine Centre. Ida was born in Brandon, Manitoba on January 1, 1925. She worked for some time at Eaton's and Waddell's Children Clothing, before deciding to devote her time to her husband and son. In 1949, Ida married Lorne Stimson and continued to live in Brandon and raise their son, Brian, until the family moved to Kenora, ON with Lorne's promotion within the post office in 1964. In 1968, another promotion saw the family move to Atikokan, ON. Here she found herself volunteering at a local school helping children with their reading and teaching some the art of knitting. Ida was an avid knitter and was exceptional at her craft. Ida and Lorne were also very involved in Atikokan TV Bingo. In 1981, after Lorne's retirement, Ida and Lorne moved to Oak Lake Island Resort, MB, where they built their retirement home. They lived there until 1993, when Lorne's poor health caused them to move to Brandon. Ida was a very devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother (Supergrandma). After Lorne passed away in November of 2004, Ida found living without her loving husband of 55 years to be overwhelming, and her health began to fail because of it. In May of 2005, she took up residence in Central Park Lodge and this quickly became "home" for her, for the rest of her days. Ida was predeceased by her loving husband, Lorne in 2004, father Thomas in 1970, mother Mary in 1988, sister Molly in 2010, brothers-in-law Al Krog in 2000 and Ray Rourke in 1998, and sister-in-law Shirley Seddon in 2005. She will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her son, Brian and wife Joan of Atikokan; grandchildren Clayton (Karyn Wilson) of Atikokan and Christy and great grandson Kaleb (eight years) of Thunder Bay; brother Tom of Brandon and sister Kay of Grande Prairie, AB. At Ida's request there will be no formal memorial service. A graveside service for family and friends will be held at Rosewood Memorial Gardens on Monday, August 29, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. with Arlene Robertson officiating. A time of fellowship and refreshments will be held immediately following at the George Brockie Fellowship Centre, 332-8th Street. The family wishes to extend special thanks to the third floor staff of Valleyview Care Centre, and the staff of the second floor of the Assiniboine Centre that made Mom's last two days as peaceful as they could. Special thanks also to Bianca Vergunst and the staff of Brockie Donovan. Messages of condolence may be placed at www.brockiedonovan.com.
MOM
You can only have one mother,
Loving, kind and true.
No other friend in all the world
Will be so true to you.
For all her love and kindness,
She asked for nothing in return,
If all the world deserted us,
To our mother we could turn.
For those of you who
Have a mother,
Treasure her with care,
For you will
Never know her value
Till you see that she is not there.
To hear her voice,
To see her smile,
To sit and talk with her awhile,
To be together in
The same old way
Would be
Our dearest wish today.
