Obituary of Marie Isabel Muir

MUIR: Marie Isabel (née Thierry) Muir passed away Thursday, April 21, 2011 at the Assiniboine Centre following a short illness in her 80th year, with her family by her side. Marie was born in Brandon on February 4, 1932, the elder of two children born to Maximilan and Mabel (née Strand) Thierry. Her brother, Milan "Junior" was born in 1933. The family lived for a time north of Erickson while her father worked at Clear Lake and then later moved to Brandon. Marie received all her education in Brandon and graduated from St. Michael's Academy. Following school, Marie worked at Mona's Dress Shop and Phipps Jewellery Store. It was during her time at Phipps that she was introduced to "Mac" Muir. Marie and Mac were married on January 26, 1963 in Brandon and shared 45 wonderful years together, until Mac passed away in November 2008. Following their marriage they lived on their farm at Margaret, until moving to Brandon in 1997 to the Colonial Estates Apartments, where they loved their third floor west view, which enabled them to see the sunsets. Their son, Don was born in October 1963. They farmed together for a number of years before Don moved to Winnipeg. Marie was a gifted seamstress, sewing the majority of her own clothes, she also enjoyed cooking. She and Mac loved music and dancing. Marie was active in all the communities she lived in, at Margaret it was the church, rink and school. In Brandon, she really enjoyed the Leisure Club at the apartment for morning coffee and activities, and Central United Church activities. For a number of years Marie enjoyed volunteering at the Red Cross Blood Donor Clinics in Brandon. Marie and Mac were able to do a fair bit of traveling in the later years, and she always said she would go back to Hawaii anytime. Marie was predeceased by her loving husband, Mac in November 2008, father Milan in 1974 and mother Mabel in 2001, brother-in-law George Lancaster in 1982 and brother-in-law Donald Muir in 1997. Marie will be sadly missed by her son, Don (Leanne Bulera and Gerald), Winnipeg, brother Milan and Jackie Thierry and family, Luanne and David Ruggles (Lindsay and Marc, Brittany), Jonna and Jerry Franzese (Jerry Jr. and Kayla), Brent and Korinne Thierry (Kyle and Ryan ) all of Thunder Bay. Marie also leaves to mourn sisters-in-law, Georgia Muir of Richmond, B.C. and Marie Lancaster of Brandon and her family, David and Mona Lancaster (Danielle, Nicole, Matthew and Brooklyn) of King City, ON, Scott and Kathy Lancaster (Geordie and Amanda, Jeremy, Zach, Katie) of Brandon; Lori Lancaster (Taylor and Riley) of Brandon. Marie is also survived by numerous cousins, extended family and friends. The Ceremony to Celebrate Marie's life was held on Monday April 25, 2011 at the Brockie-Donovan Chapel in Brandon, with. Rev Laird Russell-Yearwood and Rev. Shannon McCarthy officiating. Ken Jackson was soloist and Ruth Nickel organist. Pallbearers were Geordie Lancaster, Jeremy Lancaster, Chad Wruth, Luke Russell-Yearwood, Greg Patton and Dean Taylor. All in attendance were considered honorary pallbearers. A time of fellowship was held at Central United Church following the service. Interment was held at the Margaret Cemetery.
