Obituary of Helen "Nell" Dawe

DAWE: Helen (Nell) Dawe of Brandon passed away peacefully with family at her side at Fairview Personal Care Home on April 14, 2011. Helen was born May 18, 1914 in Brandon. She was predeceased by her mother and father, first husband Louis Phillips in 1938 and second husband Fred Dawe in 1983, son Don Phillips, brothers Andrew (Bud), Archie, Murray and Alex, sisters Annie Phillips and Isobel. Nell leaves to mourn her daughter Shirley (Ron) Miller, daughter-in-law Florence Phillips, grandchildren Louis (Brenda) Phillips, Neil (Brenda) Miller, Charlene (Cliff) Clisby, and great grandchildren Teri Phillips, Justin and Ryan Miller, Gareth and Krista Clisby, sister Marj Young, brother Jack (Margaret) Boyd, sister-in-law Ella Boyd and many nieces and nephews. She farmed and raised her two small children on her own until 1953 when she married Fred Dawe. The family moved to Brandon in 1957 and Nell worked the Kresges Store for 22 years, retiring in 1979. She volunteered at Fairview Home for over 25 years. She enjoyed curling, crafts, knitting, crocheting, volunteering for the Salvation Army and visiting seniors. Mom had many friends and enjoyed helping people, she also took great pride in her grandchildren. A celebration of Helen's life was held at Bethel Christian Assembly, on Thursday, April 21, 2011. A private family interment took place at the Brandon Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Helen may be made to Fairview Home, 2nd Floor, 1351 – 13th Street, Brandon, Manitoba, R7A 4S6.
